Rod holds his Bachelor of Commerce and LLB from the University of Manitoba. Prior to founding Areva with Hamid and Adel, Rod founded Tricor Pacific Capital Inc. Over his career, Rod has been a direct, active investor in a number of residential, industrial and retail projects. He has a passion for real estate that dates back to his university years, when he successfully developed resort properties in Lake of the Woods, Ontario.
For many years, Rod was a partner with a leading Vancouver law firm, where he led their real estate practice. He eventually moved on to building companies with a focus not just on growing the business, but also developing and empowering the people working there.
Today Rod serves as Vice Chairman of the Fraser Institute, and is also active in numerous philanthropic endeavours, including serving on the Board of Directors of a world-class cancer research group at Vancouver General Hospital.
“I’m very much enjoying being partners with Adel and Hamid. We’ve got a chance to create some terrific projects that will benefit our community. I love the work we’re doing.”
Hamid’s focus has been on real estate over the past decade. Prior to teaming up with Adel and Rod to create Areva, Hamid owned and managed a construction and property development company, and led smaller-scale development projects through the entire real estate development value chain. He is a chartered professional accountant, a certified management accountant, a Wesbrook Scholar, and holds a Bachelor in Civil Engineering and an MBA, both from UBC. Hamid recently completed Harvard Business School’s Program in Leadership Development.
In addition to being a dedicated father of a young family, Hamid sat on the City of Vancouver’s Development Permit Board Advisory Panel from 2015–2018. He volunteers with several non-profit organizations, including the Institute for Canadian Citizenship.
“You should do your best every day and never cut corners — this is the right way of developing real estate. It allows us to take pride in everything we do and to build an amazing portfolio in which every single project matters.”
Adel holds a Master in Civil Engineering and an Advanced Master in Strategy and Management of International Business. Having worked in 15 countries, he brings to Areva over 20 years of experience in the technical, legal, commercial and financial aspects of complex real estate and major public infrastructure developments. Before co-founding Areva Living, Adel was the VP of Business Development in Canada for the Bouygues Construction group ($50 billion in sales across 80 countries), and has led the development of over $800 million worth of construction projects in Vancouver and other parts of Canada.
Since 2015, Adel has been volunteering with Pathways Serious Mental Illness Society, a local non-profit organization.
“My wife and I have young children. And to some extent we are doing our projects for people like us: people who do dishes and laundry and go to work and drive their kids around. At this point in our lives, we have a good insight into what a good home means, what it represents, and how important it is.”
